This blog is based on Lifehacker’s This is How I Work series, which features productivity tips, workspaces, shortcuts and life hacks from notable/famous creative, intelligent people. This is How I Work in Science features successful scientists and researchers.

Most of this blog’s posts use the This is How I Work format – a scientist is asked questions about their work life, in a written interview format. Other occasional contributions to this blog are written in the first person, featuring specific productivity and time management strategies by scientists.

For the This is How I Work format, the following questions are used for the scientists invited. They are free to decline to answer particular questions, or to add their own. Also, I may slightly alter them over time.

  • What apps/tools/software can you not live without?
  • What’s your best time-saving shortcut or life hack?
  • What’s your workspace set up like?
  • How do you keep track of things you need to do (any to-do-list apps)?
  • Besides your phone or computer, what gadget can’t you live without, and why?
  • What everyday thing can you do better than most people? What’s your secret?
  • What do you listen to while you work?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • How do you recharge?
  • How do you balance your work life and your home/family life?
  • What’s your sleep routine like?
  • What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
